Gynecomastia, which means abnormal breast growth in men, is a condition that occurs both in older age and most commonly during adolescence.
This situation, which many men encounter during puberty, can cause both physical and psychological problems for the individual if it persists. Long-standing gynecomastia does not disappear on its own, and medical treatment and, if necessary, surgical intervention should be considered.
How is a gynecomastia surgery performed?
The most effective and definitive method to treat gynecomastia is surgical intervention. The type of procedure is decided after examinations by the surgeon at our clinic in Istanbul. Various methods can be employed against different classifications of gynecomastia.
For example:
-In glandular type gynecomastia, hard breast tissue is predominant and needs to be surgically removed.
-In mixed gynecomastia, there is excess glandular and fatty tissue; surgery and liposuction are applied together.
-In fat-type gynecomastia, it is predominantly fatty tissue, and only liposuction may be treated.
-In a further classification, the size of the breast tissue and excess skin are assessed. The form of the surgical procedure is determined accordingly.
